Razer Megalodon 7.1 Review

The Razer Megalodon 7.1 Surround Sound gaming headset is likely known by quite a few online gamers.  It is a slick headset that really should appeal to the majority of computer gamers out there due to its low cost and high level of features.  It is not a perfect headset though, so read on and decide whether you want to add it to your online gaming arsenal.

When it comes to wireless headsets, audio interference can be an issue at times.  This is not an issue with the Megalodon simply because it is connected through a USB port, by way of a braided wire.  The braided wire has an added benefit in that it reduces the likelihood of tangles and snags, while simultaneously providing a fantastic voice and audio connection.

You Can Get the Razer Megalodon 7.1 By Clicking Here

This reliability amply compliments the 7.1 channel surround sound that, according to Razer’s own website claims is developed by “the most advanced algorithms for gaming.”  Specifically, the audio is meant to feature variances in audio just as you would find it in real life.

Moving on to comfort and control, this is where things do get a little hairy for some players.  While many players who have given their reviews of this headset note that the controls and comfort are at least good, some will not care for the ear cups, or the remote control.

Looking at the ear cups for a moment, they are made from “plus velvet”, with the intention of isolating volume and creating a buffer between what you hear on the game, and the outside environment.  It sounds great, but they can get a little hot, and some may wish for a slightly larger ear cup.  It is fine for most, but some may take a slight issue here.

Coming back around to the remote control.  This is another one where people either seem to love the feature, or find it less than desired.  It is easy to use, and does not force you to pause your game or fool around with different drivers, but it is a little basic.  You get control over in line audio and bass, but that is about it.  You can focus on directional sound a bit, but this is by no means a deal maker or breaker for most.

We’ll finish up on this review for now, and let you know what user “1mpulse” at Amazon had to say.

To make this quick and easy this is probably one of the best headsets out there. The sound quality is the best I’ve ever had and the 7.1 just makes everything more enjoyable. The only problem with 7.1 is not many things support 7.1 at the moment…

A Quick Ear Force X31 Review

Turtle Beach is known for developing top of the line headsets that tend to appeal to the Xbox 360 gamer.  More specifically, the Ear Force X31 is a pretty slick headset that has a little something for everyone.  It’s not perfect though, so read on to find out more.  Those of you familiar with Turtle Beach and their Ear Force line of headsets, may recognize that this is similar to the X3 headset.  The X31 was designed purposely as an updated and improved version of the X3, which is no longer available.

Starting with the overall features , the X31 has digital RF wireless analog stereo inputs (USB powered) with an adjustable boom microphone, independent game volume and independent chat volume, a mutable microphone, oversized ear cups, chat boost, and auto shut off battery that extends battery life up to twenty hours.

Turtle Beach designed this headset specifically for those legendary gaming sessions where comfort and power are needed in balance.  Check out a video below from Turtle Beach
Let’s take a quick look at the Good:

  • The aforementioned chat boosts gives a volume increase which coincides with game volume increases.  As the action gets louder, so does your voice
  • Battery power comes from two AAA batteries
  • The over sized ear cups fit around your ears, keeping pressure off and increasing overall comfort
  • Wireless
  • Stereo sound comes dangerously close to surround sound, enabling you to hear your enemies

There is always some bad, so let’s take a quick look:

  • The near $100 price tag is a bit steep for a video game headset
  • You don’t get any of your own voice feedback, meaning you will end up talking (yelling?) much louder than you thought
  • You tend to get a little feedback off of the chat signal.  This results in a mild “hiss” that seems odd given the overall quality of the set
  • That same AAA battery source can get expensive unless you buy rechargeable

Let’s finish this Ear Force X31 review with a snippet from one of the 200 customer reviews on Amazon by user M. Chase:

I bought this product after mulling over the other Turtle Beach headsets for my Xbox 360 gaming. I am very impressed with these headphones. I had no idea that there were that many sounds going on in the game until I put these on. It’s amazing what I was missing just listening through my TV set.

A very impressive battery life of up to 10 hours and the ability to charge back up while you play keeps you going through the most epic of gaming sessions.  The adjustable head band and cushioned ear cups means that you can stick around longer than the competition wearing the other headsets.  The additional capabilities to connect with the TV, a Logitech Squeezebox, MP3 player and anything else that fits the bill by RCA and 3.5mm ports on the wireless base means you can use the headset for just about any entertainment purpose you choose.

Let’s put all of the good, and all of the bad in one place.

The Good:

  • Clear voice chat on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 alike.  Never feel out of range or off the grid
  • Up to 10 hours worth of gameplay with rechargeable batteries to extend this even further
  • Over the ear design for lasting comfort

The Bad:

  • Not true surround sound
  • Only limited to console play

If you are a strict console player and looking to up your game to the next level, you could certainly do a heck of a lot worse than to pick the Logitech F540 up.

Ear Force X41 Review

For anyone who takes their gaming and multimedia experience seriously, there is nothing better than a good, quality headset.  Whether you like to spend afternoons playing XBox or PS3, or recently got a new Blu Ray player, the experience is not complete until the audio experience has been addressed.  This is where the Ear Force X41 comes in.  Whereas many people will spend $1000 or more on a speaker system for their home, they may be less likely to spend 10% of that cost on a quality headset.  This is understandable in a way, but there are good reasons to go the headset route, especially for gamers

While some see the drawbacks of a headset being that it can only be used by one person at a time, others see it as a benefit.  For the times when background noise is too much, or those around you need their quiet, there is no need to sacrifice sound quality when an affordable and reliable headset fits the bill.  At $169, as of this writing, the X41 by Ear Force are a great choice for both gamers and those looking to heighten the overall multi media experience.

A look at some of the positive  features of the X41:

  • Voice Correction.  The headset receives feedback from the microphone as part of the overall sound signal.  The result is that you are aware if you are yelling compared to speaking into the microphone.
  • Optional connection of an extra headphone through an output jack, enabling two people to hear the game, movie or show at once.
  • Dolby 7.1 Channel Surround Sound.
  • Powered by USB into XBox or through a computer, eliminating need for a separate AC power adapter.

Are there any negatives?

  • The headset does not connect directly to a TV, meaning it must connect to a computer or XBox.
  • Only one X41 can be paired with the transmitter, meaning that while another headset can be joined, the transmitter can only connect one X41.
  • These are not noise canceling.  The volume is well contained, reducing outside noise, as well as the noise through the headset, but it is still something that can be heard at high volumes

The first issue that an audiophile looks for when purchasing a headset is sound quality.  This headset has sound quality nearly perfected, as well as numerous features providing ease of use.  As well, the headset has all the bells and whistles that take the overall product over the top.

Drop By Amazon And Pick Up the Ear Force X41 Today

What the X41 fails at is of course, the lack of noise canceling.  While this may be considered a major drawback for some, most would consider it minor that is easily made up for in light of the benefits..  If there is no pressing need for true noise canceling, then this headset certainly comes highly recommended.

The Logitech G35 Review: Affordable Option for the Recreational Gamer

logitech g35The Logitech G35 is a solid and affordable option for the recreational gamer, or even the hardcore gamer who wants a similar headset to the Logitech G930, but is wlling to sacrifice the wireless capability in favor of a reduced price.  Between surround sound capbilities, a noise canceling microphone and several options to increase the comfort of the headset, the G35 Headset is a solid option for anyone playing computer games who wants to improve the overall quality of their playing experience.

Much can be made regarding headset capabilities and whether certain options are overkill, while other features and capabilities may under deliver.  This is not usually the case when it comes to Logitech headsets.  Logitech consistently produces high quality, and affordable headsets that can dramatically improve the experience of the customer.

The primary features of the Logitech G35 are nearly identical to the G930:

7.1 Surround Sound Powered to Dolby
Customizable G-Keys giving you control over voice, music and other sound qualities and features
Adjustable headband pads providing lasting comfort
Noise Canceling Microphone
On ear audio controls

The Drawbacks are few, but important to know before you buy:

Capable only with Windows XP or Windows Vista
Not compatible with Mac Systems
Not compatible with console systems
Connected only through USB with no wireless capability

The Logitech G35 is available at Amazon for $101.97, making it a fine and cheaper alternative to the G930 for those who don’t mind the lack of wireless.

One reviewer, “SRB” noted:
“These are some serious headphones. They are extreme, hardcore, you could beat a home intruder to death with these headphones. You could ride out the apocalypse with these cans strapped to your head and go down dps-ing with all guns blazing. Ok, so the real review. These are big headphones, sturdy, metal and plastic and rubber and cloth go into the mix here. I get the feeling these will last a long time. The construction seems almost pro level or beyond….”

Tritton AX 720 Review: Ultimate Headset for the Console Gamer?

The Tritton TRIAX-720 AX 720 (AX 720′s)gaming headset is a top of the line headset optimized specifically for the console gamer playing on either the Xbox 360 or the PS3.    The AX 720 is noted for a sturdy design, adjustable microphone, comfort, sound quality, easy set up and installation.  Many users don’t limit their use just to gaming, even using them for listening to music and watching TV and movies.  While they may not match other headsets that in the $200 and up range, they certainly are considered an excellent value and comparable to many other products on the market.

What are the specific features of the Tritton AX 720′s?

  • Surround sound gaming with Dolby 5.1 digital audio technology
  • Optimized for Xbox 360
  • Xbox LIVE chat compatibility
  • PlayStation Network chat compatibility
  • Inline audio controller

The Good

  • Comfort!  The headphones fit around the ears for most people, rather than on the ears
  • Compatibility with a range of platforms
  • Sound Quality
  • Ease of use

The Bad

  • This headset is not wireless, potentially limiting range and freedom around the console
  • With that sturdy design, the headset is a bit heavy.

All in all, this headset is for any gamer looking to stay within a reasonable budget.  Let’s look at what a recent  user had to say

J said:

What a difference from the PX21 and the X41. It’s better than the PX21 because it does have surround and can connect to all 3 systems. It’s better than the X41 in sound quality. I’m not an audiophile but these had much warmer lows and cleaner highs that was clearly noticeable from the X41. I immediately returned both of the previous headsets. The surround sound on the AX 720 is there and very noticeable. I found myself instinctively turning toward footsteps before I saw them.

Tritton AX Pro Review: Worth The Price Tag?

The Tritton Ax Pro Dolby Digital Precision Gaming Headset is one of the highest quality headsets in this price range- $162.86 on Amazon as of this writing- updated on 4/16).  As one reviewer has noted,  most other headsets with comparable quality and features would retail well over $200.  With that said though, any good customer would want to do his or her research to make a decision whether this is the headset for them.  Without further ado, let’s get into the pros and cons of the headset, so you can do less research and more gaming.

The Pros of the Tritton Ax Pro:

  • Compatible with DVD, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Mac, or any other platform with a digital audio output
  • 5.1 Digital Audio
  • 8 Precision speakers total, providing top of the line surround sound experience and sound precision
  • 3D audio experience provided by the speaker set up and 5.1 digital surround sound
  • Inline audio controller allowing optimal control over all sound aspects, including chat
  • Soft velvet and faux leather pads for comfortable wear during those marathon sessions

The Bad of the Tritton Ax Pro:

  • They are affordable, but still a little pricier than other headsets
  • Limited range from your console or computer due to corded connection
  • Getting the sound set up for certain games can take some tinkering, but is usually worth it once they’re dialed in

Let’s end this review for now and take a look at what user and reviewer K.L has to say:

The surround is awesome! Not as much better from the TB’s as I thought they would be, but still excellent.

Setup was super simple and not as hard as some have said. There is only ONE wire that needs to be visible and that’s the one going to the headset. Everything can be hidden away. There are NOT two power blocks for this unit. It has ONE power block with two wires coming out of it, so it only takes up one outlet.

You can buy these for $162.86 on Amazon.

Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 Review

Simply put, the Logitech G930 is a top notch piece of equipment that combines innovative technologies to heighten the gaming experience. Between the extended wireless range and the impressive surround sound capabilities, users often note that they feel as though they are part of the game they are playing.

Crucial to any gaming experience, aside from sound quality of course, is comfort and “wearability”. Too often, headsets grow cumbersome and uncomfortable. These are easy to wear for an extended period of time during those epic online gaming runs with little to no rest needed from the headsets.

<a href=”http://www.linkedtube.com/S5SqlKZML4od874956c9711877149675f706279d408.htm” _mce_href=”http://www.linkedtube.com/S5SqlKZML4od874956c9711877149675f706279d408.htm”>LinkedTube</a>
Let’s look at the most noteworthy features of the G930:

  • USB connection for wireless signal connectivity for your choice
  • Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound
  • Noise Cancelling, Rotating Boom, Mute Light (indicator) , Real-Time Voice Morphing
  • Comfortable headband and over-the-head design
  • Programmable G-Keys enabling one touch commands for chat, voice etc.
  • Compatible with Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7

Is the headset all hit and no miss? What are the drawbacks?

  • The exclusive compatibility with Windows Operating Systems is a negative for those who play on a Mac or both computer and console
  • The headband is comfortable, but lacks customization options in lieu of increased ear cup customization

For the price, available features and performance, the Logitech G930 is a can’t miss.

Let’s have a look at what recent user Lheage has to say:

The sound is amazing. It sounds good on surround sound or without. Im told I sound clear and good on my microphone as well, which is important.- Review paraphrased for size. Read the entire review here.
